DUMONT -
you only see what you know...
... with this motto, DUMONT began publishing its first range of ambitious travel guides back in 1968. Ever since, DUMONT has been regarded as a publishing house which produces particularly high-quality travel guides. DUMONT’s travel literature is characterised by its individuality, cosmopolitanism and “cultivated aura”.
500 volumes have the world covered
For recreational or cultural trips, city breaks, extensive long-haul trips or even hiking holidays, around 500 titles in six different ranges present travel in all its various forms and are a practical, reliable and competent guide while you are on the move. A committed band of around 300 authors are behind the books. Since January 2002, the “Stefan Loose Travel Handbücher”, a premium brand among the individual travel guides, have complemented the DUMONT Reiseverlag range.
DUMONT Reiseverlag evolved from DUMONT Buchverlag, Cologne which was established in 1956. The first travel guide was published back in 1968 - the volume entitled “Die Götterburgen Mexikos” by Hans Helfritz was the first ever “art travel guide”. This range rapidly became the publishing house's brand-defining “evergreen”.
The individual interests and behaviour of travellers determine the content and design of the DUMONT guides. Numerous successful ranges such as the “DUMONT Reisetaschenbuch”, “DUMONT Direkt” and “DUMONT Richtig Reisen”, a brand new range, have been created on this basis. These are distinguished above all by being up to date and competent. Regular thorough research carried out by the authors on location as well as practical features with detailed travel tips, maps, city plans and photographs ensure that travellers can fully rely on “their DUMONT” while they are on the move. In order to ensure that they get their fair share of fun, each guide features notes on interesting outdoor activities, shopping and the local nightlife.
